The “ONE HEALTH” initiative – only one health- headed by the main human, animal and environmental international organizations such as, WHO (World health organization), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) promote collaborations among different specialists from all fields to achieve better results in HEALTH.
According to OIE, 60% of human infectious diseases are transmitted from animals and at least 75% of pathogenic organisms come from animals. Antimicrobial resistance, currently responsible for 33.000 deaths in Europe, can be one of the main problems to human health in coming decades, according to the WHO.
Today, more than ever, we need an approach where different disciplines such as human health, animal health, food safety and environmental safety are joint together. Everything is connected and so, our efforts should bind together to prevent zoonoses, food safety problems, epidemies or antibiotic resistance.
Food industry and the agricultural sector are demonstrating their ability to supply the population with the required food even in these extremely difficult times. Responsible personnel to assure food safety and quality are also key to protect consumers´ health.
